Celebrate your students

Seeing the faces of those who have taught, motivated, and mentored them makes commencement meaningful for students. Take this time to appreciate them and all they have achieved—they couldn’t have done it without you!

All IUPUI faculty are invited and encouraged to participate in the ceremony, and can reserve their regalia free of charge.

2022 Spring Commencement plans do not include any testing, ticketing or other requirements for graduates or their guests. Masks are now optional in the IU community and encouraged for those who may be more comfortable wearing them in public spaces.

Faculty roles at Commencement

Faculty Marshals do a lot to help Commencement run smoothly. Head Marshals lead the platform party and officially start and end the ceremony.

Faculty Marshals represent each school on campus and help graduates get ready for the ceremony. They help guide the student processional and direct graduates to and from their seats in Carroll Stadium. They also sit among the graduates during the ceremony.

Grand Marshalls, Head Marshalls, and Faculty Marshalls will receive instruction directly from a University Events staff member on arrrival times, location, and other details.

Faculty Mentors are a guiding presence and provide support for doctoral candidates during their studies. Most attend Commencement for the hooding of their graduate student. If you are a faculty mentor who will be hooding a graduate student, you should review the guidelines for doctoral hooding.

Faculty Mentors please arrive by 8:30 a.m. and join your student in the graduate lineup area. You will process and be seated with your student.
